This was very well done with good coverage of all the main points of the story in the book. My friends and I loved it and highly recommend!!

by thorsday this movie is getting lots of criticism , and while i understand this you cant nit-pick everything. i loved this book and obsessed about it FOREVER.... and to be honest they did pretty good. yes the characters weren't perfect, but they really went into their roles making me ignore the appearance they "should " have. i also missed some cute minor parts like the soccer( you know if you read book) but they kept true to the book and you have to look at bright side of things. i say go especially if you read the book . i went to the 10 pm pre-showing and it was good so just stop over comparing things because you like to complain.

The book was good but the movie (surprisingly) was better. The movie left out a lot of elements from the book but it was a really good rendition. Just like the book when u think there is still more to come, it wraps it all up real fast. The characters are not how I pictured them but as the movie moves on everything in your mind changes and they become exactly what you want. However the scenery was exactly what I had imagined. I do disagree with the scene with Kyle and the whirl pool. In the book he was knocked unconscious and the floor started to give way and Wanda risks her life to save him. That is not how it happens in the movie and there was no risk to Wanda's life. But overall a great movie. Even though they did not have a scene of Walter and his funeral or one of Jodie/Sunny. In closing DO NOT take a 2 min bathroom break when Wanda goes shopping it's only about 15mins from the end and you'll miss Wes' death and the capture of the seeker. At least that's What I think I missed.

Just back from seeing The Host! Wasn't expecting much after seeing the scathing reviews, but I should have known better.Critics seem to have a real bias when it comes to anything remotely associated with Twilight or Stephenie Meyer.What a shame! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. My husband (we are senior citizens) didn't know anything about the book, but when the movie ended said "I don't understand what the critics were talking about. I thought it was really good." Not every movie has to be a "Lincoln" or a "Silver Linings Playbook" (both of which I loved). And not every movie has to be made for 15-35 year old males. I am glad Hollywood is finally noticing that fact.I loved the approach of seeing an alien invasion from the alien's point of view. I loved seeing earth and humans from her eyes.The acting was very good.And bash Stephenie Meyer all you want, but anyone that can get a whole generation interested in reading books again and not just playing video games is all right by me!

If you are a fan of the book (which I am), this is definitely worth seeing. If you didn't read the book, I would recommend waiting for the Bluray. As an adaptation, it stays fairly true to the book, so fans will be able to appreciate that aspect. I have a problem with Andrew Niccol as a director. His films have so much potential, but they turn out very average and end up falling flat and disappointing. The acting is solid and there are some really good scene. But for me, the film doesn't come together well as a whole. The score is extremely lacking, the editing wasn't that good, and the Melanie voice-overs were poorly done and came across as cheesy. I enjoyed the film, despite Niccol's underwhelming (and sometimes boring) end product, because I like the story I hope to see a sequel once Meyer finishes the next book, but with a different director.
